Just over a month ago, more than 300 friends and supporters celebrated the thousands of futures brightened though adoption at WACAP‘s annual Children’s Hope Gala, held this year at Seattle’s Four Seasons Hotel. Together we also remembered our promise to the orphaned and vulnerable children across the globe who continue to wait for a family.
Because of the generosity of our supporters and their commitment to helping each child find the love of a family, together we raised over $250,000, which will support WACAP’s Promise Fund. Special thanks to presenting sponsor Group Health, who helped make this event possible. The funds generated will help WACAP continue to identify the children most in need, reach out to find the right family for each child, and provide grants for families if fees present barriers to bringing a child home.
One of the children now home with her family is Shruthi, whom we were privileged to welcome as a guest with her mom Cathy and sister Kaylee at this year’s auction. Shruthi was born in India with a number of special needs including limb differences, a cleft palate, eye issues, and club feet (many related to a rare condition called Larsen syndrome). Although she waited several years for the family who was right for her, WACAP’s Family Finders team didn’t stop searching for her adoptive parents, and Shruthi was adopted in March of 2010 at age 4 by a family who knew how special this little girl was.
Today, she’s home — a 7-year-old whose voice brightens everyone’s day (something WACAP staff learned firsthand after Shuthi’s recent visit to the WACAP Renton headquarters). Because of the support of her family, Shruthi’s getting the medical care she needs and she’s blossoming. We won’t soon forget the cheer and the laughter of this amazing little girl as she walked through the office and later joined us at the auction, greeting all she met like they were dear friends.
