If you haven’t heard, this month brought exciting news for adoptive families. In early January, Congress passed the Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, legislation that included a permanent extension of the federal adoption tax credit.
The credit, established in 1997 and set to expire last December, has supported thousands of families with adoption costs and has allowed countless children in need to find permanent, loving homes.
Over the past year, many friends and supporters reached out to legislators, asking them co-sponsor bills in the House and the Senate. Families shared personal stories about why the adoption tax credit was so vital. They made all the difference.
