Federal Adoption Tax Credit Permanently Extended

atcIf you haven’t heard, this month brought exciting news for adoptive families. In early January, Congress passed the Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, legislation that included a permanent extension of the federal adoption tax credit.

The credit, established in 1997 and set to expire last December, has supported thousands of families with adoption costs and has allowed countless children in need to find permanent, loving homes.

Over the past year, many friends and supporters reached out to legislators, asking them co-sponsor bills in the House and the Senate. Families shared personal stories about why the adoption tax credit was so vital. They made all the difference.

You can learn more about the details of the credit for 2013 by visiting the website of the Adoption Tax Credit Working Group, of which WACAP is a member.

WACAP (World Association for Children and Parents) is one of the largest and most experienced international nonprofit adoption and child assistance agencies in the United States. Since 1976, we’ve placed over 10,000 children with loving adoptive parents and provided food, medical care and education to more than 200,000 children around the world.
